1940s Syroco Wood Corkscrew, known as "The Old Codger," a delightful piece of mid-century barware. Produced by the Syracuse Ornamental Company (Syroco) in Syracuse, New York, this particular corkscrew is the "Old Codger Figural" in a stained walnut finish, though it was also available in a painted version.
Syroco products are made from a blend of wood powder and thermoset resin, molded under pressure. The Old Codger corkscrew features a steel corkscrew and bells supplied by the Williamson Company of Newark, New Jersey.
Note the damage on the bottom stand and the tarnish to the corkscrew.
